Visceral Manipulation Therapy
Edmonton Area
Our organs need to have the ability to move in order to function properly. After injuries, accidents or surgeries, the scar tissue that forms can cause adhesions which may restrict the intrinsic movement of the inner organs. The Visceral Manipulation (VM) practitioner evaluates the body for patterns of tension and determines the exact location of the strongest place of holding. Specific techniques are applied to the surrounding tissue of the organ to free it and give it more space to function.
Why is Visceral Manipulation Therapy Effective?
Visceral Manipulation is so effective because the practitioner identifies and releases the location that needs help the most. Everything in our body is flexible and pliable and a tight spot can pull other organs and even bones out of place. It’s a domino effect and often the body shows symptoms at a distant location.
A common example: During the impact of a car accident the organs bounce back and forth, just like in a whiplash. Often the liver gets dislocated and can’t find its way back to the original location. Adhesions or scar tissue might form. Scar tissue always contracts and pulls at surrounding tissues.
We might find now that the liver is pulling at the tissues above. This person in the car accident, maybe a few months later, suddenly gets diagnosed with a frozen shoulder. The VM practitioner who looks for the tightest spot, will probably find that it is the liver that is compromised most. After the liver release the frozen shoulder is now able to heal.

Visceral Manipulation Therapy FAQ
I usually integrate Visceral Manipulation techniques with Craniosacral Therapy. To release one or two organs does not take longer than 20 minutes.
There are a few contraindications and I have comprehensive intake forms to make sure that you can have this form of therapy. If you have doubts, please consult with your doctor.
VM is a gentle form of manipulating the inner organs and it should never hurt under my fingertips. Should you experience pain, you need to let me know immediately. However, some techniques can cause some mild discomfort.
